I'm Just Warming Up!

Global Warming gives me gas

My local paper has me a little hot, as it performs its sacred duty to promote global warming and the various projects touted to save us from our inevitable destruction.  As  reported from a a New York Times News Service article, our crack team of climate scientists have been intently searching for  reasons of our global meltdown and have identified one of the offenders for "greenhouse" gas emmissions to be the upset stomach of our delicious nemesis "the cow". Yes, it seems that our latest delimma concerning global warming is a battle to eliminate, or at least reduce, the toxic belch of the many cows that roam our "fruited plain".  The article states that "sweetening cow breath is a matter of some urgency" as their sour stomachs cause them to belch methane,a significant heat-trapping gas, into our fragile atmosphere.  Don't take my word for it, just check with Frank Mitloehner, a university professor who places cows in an air-tight tent enclosure to measure what he calls their "eruptions" through burps and flatulence, and has scientifically documented that the average cow expels 200 to 400 pounds of methane per year.  This vital research is considering a change in diet for our cud chewing adversary. This note-worthy exploration into the inner workings of the cow's stomach has examined the effects of different foods to replace corn and soy-looking at alfalfa and flaxseed as possible substitutes to mimic the spring grasses the animals ate long ago.  This crisis is reaching colossal proportions as this article cites a 2006 report, claiming "the environmental impact of cows worldwide, including forest-clearing activity to create pasture land, estimates cows might be more dangerous to the earth's atmosphere than trucks and cars combined."  The article stopped short of endorsing Chick- Fil-A as the answer to our problem and I am sure the government is going to want to spend alot more money and time studying this problem before they reach the conclusion of needing to tax the beef industry in the interest of world security....and that's NO BULL!

LOL! - great hub. ANYBODY who thinks global warming is an issue is an idiot. Yeah, I know, I've just labeled myself as a right-wing extremist. But hey, I can exhale CO2 with the best of them. Good post!

Yes, this "global warming" agenda is madness. I don't know where it stops because so many people are buying into it with no questions asked. I think they will get their way and drastically change the way we live....for the worse.

Well, I have nothing against cows, but in Reno where I live, the average low is almost never reached in summer, ever. And the glaciers along 395 south of Reno are melting like the one in the Sawtooth range of the Sierra Nevada.

Global warming is noticed more at elevation and at the poles.

bgamall- I should have clarified my global warming comments as follows. I am not sure if we have globally warming climate, what I am sure of is that it is not man-made or cow-made either.

WOW. talk about living in a bubble. Or having a bubble for a brain. It is an inevitable phenomenon that if mankind continues to pollute the atmosphere at the current rate that eventually there will be no "healthy" air left to breath. I simply can not understand why this is such a debate. There is no reason why we should continue to pollute the air; the ground and oceans are being polluted to almost the point of no return. Without some regulations nothing will ever change. It is scientific fact that in areas that the air is so polluted with toxins, it is killing communities, and costing big bucks in health care when it can be avoided. Global warming is a scientific fact. Pollution is a scientific fact. The two go hand in hand. The idiots are the ones who deny the problem. Or maybe those idiots are the ones causing the problem?

You are confused, as most liberals are, ....the discussion is "global warming" and not pollution. You are a sucker and have been duped. Man has no control on the climate, ....you have been sold snake oil by con-men such as Al Gore.

"Global Warming" In the sense that Al Gore sells it, is a load of Bull poop. So maybe Al should be sanctioned and taxed for his helping the cows. While there is no doubt in my mind the Global Climate maybe changing, as braudboy said it is not the fault of man. As science has shown us "global climate" has changed since there has been a globe, and will continue to do so.

The problem here is complacency more than anything else. For some reason the people of today think that now major earth changing disasters can happen any longer as they have through out the history of the earth, and if one does it must be mans fault; because this hasn't already been happening for millennia, right?

Maybe it is that people today think we are too "advanced" or what ever it may be. The people of old blamed such things on their gods, lack of sacrifices or for what ever reason they angered them. The people today blame it on man, when science shows us that no matter what the people blame it on the Earth has been doing it since there was an earth. Werther it be huge hurricanes, tsunamis or earth quakes, to volcanic eruptions. It's not mans fault its nature. And every one seems to ignore the same scientific facts they cling so hard to when arguing their side of this debate.
